Story behind the song
In the mind of a 6-year-old during a Mardi Gras parade in New Orleans.
Lyrics
Grown-ups are too big to see the ground Grown-ups are too big to see the ground They watch the costumes masks and arms The throws into the crowd From giant floats like little clouds They catch stuff in the air But if it hits the ground They leave it there They leave it there Grown-ups hide even the highest floats Grown-ups hide even the highest floats Backs and backs of heads and hands Like tiny treetops block the view So all I see are tractor wheels And lots of legs and Big big shoes Big big shoes And they dont notice me Because Im littler than them Im a bratty kid Without a leash I just wander free Among these Amazonians No grown-ups gonna rain on My parade My parade Grown-ups don't know what they're missing Grown-ups don't know what they're missing Dodging knees I stoop and scoop up Tons of treasures in a blink They think they're smart But down here I'm the King Im the King And they dont notice me Because Im littler than them Im a bratty kid Without a leash I just wander free Among these Amazonians No grown-ups gonna rain on My parade My parade Grown-ups are too big to see the ground Grown-ups are too big to see the ground Dodging knees I stoop and scoop up Tons of treasures in a blink They think they're smart But down here I'm the King Im the King They think they're smart But down here I'm the King Im the King Words and Music by Jack Morris Copyright (c) 1998
