Minotaur Project is the musical journey of french-hungarian bassist/composer Matt Gabnai, writing a sort-of fusion metal music with an enormous variety of classical and jazz influences, often themed on literature, mythology, movies, or his own experiences. He started to play bass at the age of seventeen, but music quickly turned out rather a lifestyle for him, than just a hobby. After finishing his years in the local contemporary music school he was a bassist for Budapest-based metal group My Small Community, co-founder of the blues group Peef-Poof Project, and was also known for his work as a sound engineer. In 2010, as he decided to move to Strasbourg, France, and beside joining the heavy-metal group Mystery Blue, the long-waited distribution of his own music -Minotaur Project- has begun, with only a handful of aims to achieve: to provide music with an uncompromised quality of his influences, and to invite as many of his friends and favourite musicians to play with him as possible. Since 2011 he's one of the west-European endorsers of Prolude Amplification.

Story behind the song
This is probably the next step for the Minotaur Project. As some of my friends know I'm looking for a singer for a while. What I get most of the time from my subscribers is "I can't imagine your music having vocals, although I miss them". The strange thing is, this is totally how I felt too. I knew two things: I'm not gonna sing (I only publish stuff I'm able to produce on a professional level, and my voice is the farthest thing from it :)), and that it's gonna be a hell of a ride finding someone I'd be ok with, since I knew that until my music isn't completed with vocals of my (highest) expectations, I'll be stuck with instrumental songs. I have the endulgance not to publish anything I'm not completely satisfied with in every way. So time-to-time I check into sites, trying to recruit people to collaborate with, but I always had a hard time with vocalists - either it's distance, lack of recording or singing skills/experience - or enough creativity. Last month I auditioned at least five persons, whom got some songs from the upcoming Escape Solaris - I wanted to let them go as far as I could so that I can see what they come up with. I couldn't say I was unsatisfied - I just saw the Minotaur was going nowhere with them, it just wasn't their type of music. Phil Ira asked to remain somewhat anonymous, but what I can tell is we met through a website designed to help finding musicians to collaborate with. He lives in the US, had some experience with bands before, but he's not a professional musician. Phil asked me if he could do some vocals over Rusty Springs - I said why not - and what you hear on this is about 75% the original tracks he sent me the first time. Also he wrote the lyrics - not the usual quality of material I get to work with. Especially in the given timeframe, which wasn't much at all. I was surprised, and I honestly wasn't expecting this to be so good the first time. Totally the kind of vocals I wanted to hear for the Minotaur - diverse, agressive, catchy, dynamic. This way I have to say Phil took it to the next level for me - having matched the songs melodies without overruling/cancelling them. I hope we can work on some next projects as well :)
Lyrics
Lyrics by Phil Ira Freedom waits around the next sharp curve - watch the edge There’s no time for a final breath - so don’t give in The stakes are high and the margin thin - so very thin The sweetness of escape I came to see the wonders of this land How could I have ever known the truth of what she said She said we’d be above our Heads if we got this far Our tanks are running empty There’s only one way out Too late to stop us now we Can’t turn around just yet Our path is clearly marked and We’ll never have regrets This is not a call to action This is not a cry for help Dissonance and static No reply no ones out there Dissonance and static Thought I heard (the faintest sigh)
