Story behind the song
I wanted to write a song about what is missing most in the most important areas of our lives.
Lyrics
4- Honor- Chip Murray/ Lead Vocal, Guitars, Harmonica
He grew up in that yellow house on the corner of Red and Vine…
he never had that many friends, but he was a friend of mine.
He talked about his father as if he was dream…
I never seen him raise his hand, or treat nobody mean.
Somethin’ ‘bout the way he walked could make a young girl sway…
Somethin’ ‘bout the way he talked…make a bully run away.
Hang low, we did not know…we never had the time.
Who was that man we did not know… he was a friend of mine.
Honor came and saved my life before the bus for school…
He told me that I thought too much about Nobody’s Fool.
The teachers tried to mold him with words and fancy rules…
But Honor sang a different song and danced to a different tune…
Break
The winds of change came painfully…they swept across the land.
They blew young Honor far away to a place called Viet Nam.
The rest of us, we partied…and learned to bend the rules…
while Honor fought and died so well to save Nobody’s Fool.
The years have come, the years have gone…some 14,000 days…
What color can we paint this world with Honor in his grave?
I want my kids to know him, and learn to speak his name…
Honor is as Honor was…an everlasting flame.
So long ago, how could we know the blind would lead the blind…
Who was that man we turned away…he was a friend of mine.
