Story behind the song
Guitars - Ted Doran Vocals - Alice Jean Percussion & Keyboards - Lynn Monk Arranged, produced, mixed and mastered by Lynn Monk ================================================ The guitarist in my blues band wanted to record this song just for fun. He asked me to find a vocalist. I'd heard Alice Jean on Soundclick and thought she would be great on this song! NOTES ON PRODUCTION =================== Unfortunately I had to transpose the track for Alice's vocal and the guitar sound suffered a bit in the processing. I had to use more chorus than I wanted in order to disguise the odd tuning. The Flute and Cello are two of my favourite samples. I've used them on quite a few of my acoustic productions (you may have noticed them more than once on the songs I've posted here!). The percussion, as usual, is from my own collection of percussion instruments. I've kept them low in this mix, but listen out for Shaker, Cabassa, Triangle & Claves. The vocal track needed a lot of work as Alice had to record it on her external hard drive recorder and then transfer it to her PC before compressing it to a 128Kbps MP3, which she sent to me. Thus it had already collected a lot of background hiss and distortion before I got hold of it. Rather than let the clarity of the vocal suffer I didn't use a noise filter, but just gated the noise out between phrases. The hiss is still very noticeable under the vocal line. The MP3 also distorted the timing, so I had to re-align all the phrases in time with the track. It's still not perfect of course, but very nice for a free MP3!
