We have in 'Jus' Thinkin' another Geo Ballentine masterpiece. Geo recently criticized this song for what he described as an 'easily recognizable duplication' in part with two previous works - 'Slow Dancin's Fine' and 'Rain on the Bridge' (both outstanding pieces, I hastily add). While Geo is a self-effacing, gracious, and polite artist, when it comes to his own music composition, he can be quite tough on himself. And, in his criticism of 'Jus Thinkin', I think he has been a bit hasty. Here's why:
None of the aforementioned three songs is a replication or abridgment of the other, in any capacity. Listen, then compare. The songs do, however, fall nicely into a genre whereby possessors of a serious ear can identify the guitarist. Like 'Slow Dancin's Fine' and 'Rain on the Bridge', 'Jus Thinkin' does 'jus that'. And isn't that every songwriter/guitarist's dream? Anyone who has composed several originals knows full well how difficult it is to execute 'genre' without flirting with repetit
