Lyrics
There's an old playhouse in the city
Called the Metropolitan
She hasn't seen a play in many a long day
But she'll be comin' back to life soon again
She was built in '24 for the big stage
Silent movies, vaudeville traveling shows
Saw many a golden gown, but now the curtain's down
And only memories fill the empty rows
Time to open up her doors, turn on her lights
Thrill a new audience with wonderful sights
Bring her back to life so no one will forget
She's a grand old lady, she's the Met
They used to arrive in horse and buggy
Model T Ford and streetcar line
As the people poured in, the organ would begin
And the lamps of the projector start to shine
She's felt the footsteps and heard the voices
Of Bob Hope, George Burns and Helen Hayes
But the vaudeville days are gone, the performers all moved on
She's been dark and lonely now for many days
Time to open her doors, turn on her lights. . .
She's a grand old lady, she's the Met
Now the grand old lady needs attention
Now the grand old lady needs a cure
She's given folks too many good times to mention
Now we need to do some giving back to her
Time to open up her doors. . .
She's a grand old lady, she's the Met
She's a grand old lady, she's the Met
