A different spin on the tear-in-my-beer theme.
acoustic folk country lai
Lyricist on an endless quest for the perfect melody.
I'm afraid I can't claim to be a band, although I have been known to jump on a bandwagon from time to time. No, I'm just a humble lyricist who is in absolute awe of the composers who have stumbled into my life and bothered to wrap a melody around some of my words. I've been attempting to legitimately call myself a lyricist since I was about 14 years old. Have a listen, won't you, and let me know if I qualify.

Lyrics
Bartender Wanted © 2011 Greg C. Brown & Mark D. Preston Ever since they closed the steel mill I’ve been knockin’ on doors. Looking for most any job, Even if it's moppin’ floors. One day while pounding pavement, Having no luck at all, I came across this side street bar, (With) A sign nailed to the wall. CHORUS It said, Bartender Wanted, Just apply within. You don’t have to know a lot ‘Bout serving wine and gin. The job description struck me As just a little odd. Said, “All you need’s a willing ear And a sympathetic nod.” Now I’ve had my share of troubles As a down and out man Who often found compassion With a beer glass in his hand. So I went to see the owner, Said I'm more than qualified. Because I know this job real well, From the other side. CHORUS The sign said, Bartender Wanted, Just apply within. You don’t have to know a lot ‘Bout serving wine and gin. The job description struck me As just a little odd. Said, “All you need’s a willing ear And a sympathetic nod.” BRIDGE And so I stand here every night, wipe my counter clean, And listen as their lives slip through their hands. I give ‘em all a knowing smile and freshen up their drinks And make sure they know someone understands. CHORUS The sign said, Bartender Wanted, Just apply within. You don’t have to know a lot ‘Bout serving wine and gin. The job description struck me As just a little odd. Said, “All you need’s a willing ear And a sympathetic nod.” All you need is a willing ear And a sympathetic nod.
