Lyrics
The River
Words and music by Dan Edwards 2011
I’m sitting on a river bank,
Watching leaves turn from green to gold.
Trying to face the fact that,
I am growing old.
I’ve been sitting on this river bank,
Year after year…
Wondering what it is that I am doing here so,
Tell me what I don’t already know,
Tell me where oh where this river flows.
Will it carry me out to the sea,
Then like a thought get lost inside of me?
Inside of me?
Time like the river, keeps passing by and by.
It never stops to ask, it never wonders why.
It has no one to honor, no Love to defend.
Solely determined to reach the end.
It’s going to reach the end.
So, like the river, I’ll take the long way home,
And try not to spend,
So much time alone.
I’m going to do my best to embrace each day,
And beyond that I just can’t say,
Because,
No one can tell me what I don’t already know,
No, no one knows where the river flows.
Will it carry me out to the sea,
Then like a thought get lost inside of me?
Inside of me?
