Story behind the song
Just thinking back to when I lived in Rio as a youth, many years ago.
Lyrics
The Summer of '72 by Brian J. Dooley Listen to the rhythm of the city as we dance Carnival in 1972 It was a time ago, it was far away, we were so much younger too Cathy and I are going down to Ipanema There is summer in the breeze and there is moonlight in her hair We pass the batucada, drums rolling samba, snaking away down the crowded street We're drinking cachaca and singing along with nearly everyone we meet Cathy and I are surrounded with magic There is laughter in her eyes and there is music in the air I remember how we danced 'til the sun came up and the sleepy dancers drifted away Then we parted still floating along in a magical sort of a way And Cathy and I would perhaps meet again next time Hold on to these moments they can never reappear. Well, Cathy crashed on a motorcycle ride and died in the summer of 1972. Copyright © 2003, Brian J. Dooley
