Story behind the song
The title is a play on the name of the disease. My uncle died a slow death as a result of it. For almost 15 years he knew nothing, not even how to chew his own food. He did not resemble anything I had known of him previously.
Lyrics
Rummaging through souvenirs from long forgotten places Nothing here can even light a spark Family and friends appear as unfamiliar faces Not meaning to keep her in the dark She doesn’t care She doesn’t know the time Or even know her own name Alice is here Or is she somewhere else There is no way to tell by merely looking at her Alice is near Or is she far away It’s just too hard to say today He retired some years ago but he still thinks he’s working And once again he thinks he’s running late He grabs some toast and sips his coffee but he don’t feel hungry Cause he forgot that he already ate “What is this place?” He briefly asks himself Though he’s sitting home in his chair Elmer is gone Or is he slightly here There is no way to tell by merely looking at him Elmer is home Or is he far away It’s just too hard to say today It’s hard to say They only need someone Need someone to comfort them Someone who will be their friend It’s hard today Someone to see them though Someone who they can talk to Help them know what next to do They’re far away Let them know it’s alright Help them through this darkened night Maybe they can find their light Far far away There’s really nothing left to say They are both gone Or are they a little here There is no way to tell by merely looking at them They are still gone They are so far away Because it’s easier today

Very powerful song to those that 'know' and a great melody for those not so close to the subject matter. Great stuff, Jon!
