Lyrics
LORI'S SONG JERRY E. MONTGOMERY Little girl sittin on her daddy's knee, Sayin', “Daddy, can you answer these questions for me? Why did the old lady live in a shoe? Did the cow really jump over the moon?” I said, Well --- Well, I don't know that I can rightly say. I guess God just made it that way. I am sorry that I don't have all the answers, And I sometimes wonder, “Who is teaching who?” You'll soon grow up and fly away, Lorinda, And I'll have only memories of you. On her thirteenth birthday, I got a big kiss. She said, “Daddy, you know everything. Now tell me this: Why is life sometimes exciting and other times so boring? Why is it so hard to figure out what I want to be when I grow up? I said, Well --- Well, I don't know that I can rightly say. I guess God just made it that way. I am sorry that I don't have all the answers, And I sometimes wonder, “Who is teaching who?” You'll soon grow up and fly away, Lorinda, And I'll have only memories of you. She was nineteen now and she looked me straight in the eye. She said, “Daddy, I don't understand. Please tell me why: Why do people lie and cheat and hurt one another? Why do young boys have to die in wars? I said, Well --- Well, I don't know that I can rightly say. I guess God just made it that way. I am sorry that I don't have all the answers, And I sometimes wonder, “Who is teaching who?” You'll soon grow up and fly away, Lorinda, And I'll have only memories of you. Sittin' here now, alone and sad – Wonderin' who's got all the answers for dad. Lord, why'd you take my little girl? She was only twenty. Will I see her again? Where are the answers I seek to find? Suddenly thunder filled the skies, and I heard the Lord say, “Here's your answer, my son --- I made it that way.” I believe she was an angel sent from Heaven, To teach us just how precious life can be. I am grateful for the time we had together, And a heart that's filled with lovely memories. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * (The verses are spoken. The chorus is sung) Words by Jerry E.
