Lyrics
A Child
I was born, May 1st the year was 1991
No bigger than a fore arm, but my life had just begun
I became my mothers charm, blessed her like the rising sun
Kept me out the way of harm, and told me to fear none
But I was a shy child, never really talked much
Smiled when I was spoken to, and never wanted to be touched
Had some friends in school, but not like I was popular
I wanted mostly to be cool, so I went where my buds were
Until the day that we moved, august of 98
Setup in a new environment, given a brand new slate
Scared out of my mind to walk past the grounds gate
Noticing I hesitated, my dad said why the wait
Then bent down, looked me in the eye, said you’ll be fine
It’s change, you’ll get used to it, but it’ll take some time
Now come on lets go find your classroom and your new teacher
Its the 1st day of school, I bet they’re dying to meet ya
Be who you are, and say what you feel
Because those who mind don’t matter and the ones that don’t are real
You’ll begin to find in time that all the bull sh** fades away
With all the junkies left behind, now there’s a boquet
Of beautiful people who accept you cuz you don’t lie
Looks don’t really mean much, you know you hold the eye
The ones that catch attention, have it easiest to try
To deceive your every thought, im sure you learned this in july
A persons a person no matter what gender they like
Stick n stones can break your bones, but words can hurt just alike
Confidence aint common sense, you’ve gotta learn to teach yourself
Take the baby steps, my hand’ll be out to help
All alone, like it or not, is something you’ll be quite a lot
Count your chickens, plan a plot, don’t waste any of the time you got
The world wont change for you, so you’ve got to change the world
If people don’t like your views, tell em to sit n twirl
You’re good enough, but you see i want you to be the best
Which is why I keep pestering, Im not tryna make u stressed
You have the opportunities you need to learn to take
And if you keep turning your back, soon enough they’re guna fade
Tune n buff the hate away, just turn em into compliments
And if you work for your main course, you’ve gotta earn your condiments
Cuz nothin in this world will ever come free
I can help teach you son, stretch your legs, follow me
With each reach you’ll become, closer to your destiny
It’s peachy keen in the sun, but when the clouds come swallowing
You’ve gotta learn to stand up on your own two feet
Like a soldier in the war, steady marching to the beat
You just must defeat, the monster that’s inside you
Don’t trust deceit, they’re just there to misguide you
If you take my advice, but still follow your own heart
You’ll have nothing to worry about, you just need a push start
