A blast from the past
Artist picture
Original jangly guitar pop. Sometimes gets a little bluesy or jazzy.

Story behind the song
I wrote this in 2002 as a response to "reality" TV and how people easily buy into obvious lies...i.e "weapons of mass destruction", etc. I was worried about writing a song based on current events, because I figured it would lose viability in a short amount of time. Sadly, it's still pretty relevant today. From the CD 'Nocturnal Omissions' by The Hidden Persuaders. Scott Olson is on drums. Jack Smith on acoustic. Everything else is me.
Lyrics
Does it really matter how I feel? What I say or do When everything seems predetermined By someone other than me or you And do we have the wherewithal To stand our ground To change our minds and change our lives Or just exist blind and bound Why does it have to be this way Why must we play a losing game How can we find a different path When the roads all look the same We can choose to take the easy way Doing what we’re told Get our reality from the TV screen Buy every bill of goods we’re sold No one ever tells you what to do So you think you’re free But twenty years of school and work Have told you what you see It doesn’t have to be this way Use the knowledge you have gained Be a survivor in the real world You can be unchained You don’t have to live that way Like an animal taught and trained Who wants to be a millionaire You can be unchained And if you rise and walk with me I will stand and fight for you And we will make a new beginning We shall be unchained
