I am the man who works at the depot
I take my break at the Noon Time Café
There is a couple who sits in the corner
They come here each and every day
She is a young and beautiful woman
He is a young and handsome man
They are in love, you can tell in a minute
Eye to eye and hand in hand
And they both have such innocent eyes
Gazing for hours on end
And they both have such beautiful smiles
………
I am the man who works at the depot
I work from seven to five each day
I load the crates that are destined for Boston
Baton Rough, New York, L.A.
I live alone in a one room apartment
Just half a mile from the East River Park
Sometimes at night you can see the young couple
Walking alone and in love in the dark
Softly and slowly the move
He strokes her hair, she rests on his shoulder
Oh, but to be in those shoes
……….
Its as sure as the sun rises up every morning
There at the Noon Time that couple will be
So deep in love you can tell in a minute
Pure as the sun on the sand and the sea
Its as if the whole world were that one little table
He sees only her and she sees only him
Its enough to give hope to an aging old worker
Make him believe in a good life again
Oh, but to be in those shoes
Oh, but to love in those shoes………
