Story behind the song
Seeing so many heartbreaks regarding health care and health insurance
in USA and being very much a part of it,I decided to write this song.
Lyrics
I remember like today the night dressed in full moon
when they brought my mother home from the smoky stale saloon
For years she waits at tables , emptied ashtrays and spittoons
the helper in kitchen, is my sister Mary-Lou
Second hand smoke, cigar stench, Mom said, sometime it’s crude
with this job she put me trough school, she must be pretty shrewd
Now poor old thing, she’s in pain, but acting very brave
she said to us “I’ll be alright, with God’s help I’ll be saved”
Next day we took her to the doctor, the nurse said “sit and wait,
you have no health insurance, no way ,now you have to pay”
There’s no money for the treatment nor for all the drugs
my mother slowly disappearing ,my life’s turning to dregs
We layed her down in cold dark grave on one cold rainy day
I remember like today I cried and I prayed
That there will come the day when people will not have to fear
that illness never makes somebody’s livelihood disappear
