Story behind the song
Taken from 'The Butterfly Island Story' at www.butterfly-island.com Chapter 2, Scene 11 Once again the Lover is on his own, and sings about his feelings for Nancy. He knows that he doesn't want to go through life without her. He remembers the pain and the hurt that he felt when she was a prostitute and would go off and be with other men. She would "give her love to someone new". Sometimes, it was almost more than he could bear, and yet he could never stop loving her. This songs re-affirms his conviction that Nancy is the true love of his life but it also reveals that he is still hurting from those past events and those lingering painful memories that he is yet to come to terms with. The healing must now begin but he is going to need some help along the way ...
