Erich Zann is a melodic, technical speedmetal band from Portland, Maine. They have two releases, "The Art of Impact"(1993), and "Reflections of a Troubled Time"(1996).
Story behind the song
With the name of the band being Erich Zann, and the name taken from an H.P.Lovecraft short story, we thought that we'd tie that into a song that we were working on about someone who was at a point, mentally, about to 'jump off a cliff' so to speak. The song ended up having the strangest arrangement I'd ever heard in a Heavy Metal song. It's very dynamic and includes some 'soundbites' from such films as "The Amityville Horror", "Silence of The Lambs" as well as some sound effects that we did ourselves.See if you can spot them...
Lyrics
Memory lapses over my tortured brain
washing down the poison
What a bad taste, compassion lingers on
Let me float in the darkness
Swept away and under the vision
Not a care, I'm just past the mark
Outside, untouchable
Is this the window of dreams
If I really cared then why did I leave me
Drained out and all alone
Dry-screaming in the room of fears
Scared to look down 'cause there's nothing left
to stand upon
Bottoms up, a toast to my passing
Upside-down through the vortex
Outside, sound is out now
I can see the places we die
Unlock the way, can't see me
Distrust the day, can't see
Eyes too open, nothing's clean
Eyes can't stop me, I am..
Passing through the vortex
Letting go of my mind
Out of site, sound is out now
I can see the places we die
Never again can I sleep
Now and then, catch a glimpse
Eyes too open, always there
I can't stop me, I am...
Swept away and under the vision
Not a care, I'm just past the mark
Outside, untouchable
Is this the window of dreams, or...
Nightmares, empty stairs
Have you seen the rest of me
Mirror to my tortured brain
Don't look down, just float away
Reflective plains, I'm all alone
Lost inside the room of fears
