Story behind the song
With Dylan P (A.k.a. Soil Finn) on the Rhythm Guitar with a wild tuning. I later recorded other instruments over. Dylan and I laid down the instrumental and vocal layer in one go with assistance from the muse. The lyrics took meaning of their own with instances such as "Human kind, you made it up" being that you are the one who created this world you wade in, so all of the shadows and other half/missing pieces are of your own being. To find the outside you must find the inner. Your other half is your reflection. "You cannot leave your shadow no matter how Wide/white it gets" allows a misinterpretation of the lyrics in it's strange mispronounced flow. 'Wide' and 'white' are used in that line being interchangeable or confused where if the light (white) hits a shadow it pretends not to be there, or if a shadow grows into darkness (Wide) it's covering of a large space allows it to seem not to be there as well. Though, it is still standing by very closely in either manner. Many other lyrical slip-ups or interesting interpretations are made in words throughout the album where the meanings are spiraling several ways. The sounds of the 'brush drums' in the beginning are literally brush! Be it, brush that was being cut down to make a trail to a tent in the spring of 2010, the audio was recorded at that time and fixed into the song intro. Also heard are some of the stream side ambiance and hissing highway sounds used as the sounds of shadows/spirit (Shadows playing a large theme of the album that this song and "Loving Ghost" will be attributed to for the album.)
