Story behind the song
The thought just came to me one night while looking up at a roof top.
Lyrics
It Was Santa [Re-Write 03.01.11] (12.21.00) (Chorus) It was Santa! Santa! Could have had the proof. Should have snapped the picture of the big guy on the roof. It was Santa! Santa! Then I could have said. “Look here I have the proof now, that’s a reindeer, that’s a sled.” (V) Spent a great deal of my life searching his existence. Many years I planned, but all in vain. Then last night I guess I was rewarded for persistence. The light I saw wasn’t any plane. (Chorus) (V) Heard the sound of jingle bells, softly, softly jingle. Then the sounds of tiny weenie hoofs. Jumped ‘cross the bed fully dressed, did not stop to tinkle. For I knew it was Old Saint Nick on my roof. (Chorus) (V) Grabbed the camera from the hall, slipped out through the back door. The wind was cold, the moon was big and bright. My jaw dropped down, I rubbed my eyes forgetting what I was there for. Forgetting I had Santa in my sights. (Chorus) (V) Then suddenly a puff of smoke all there was, was chimney. Excitement must have numb my silly brain. It never really crossed my mind, I hadn’t snapped his picture. Not until he flew off again….Santa??…But it was (Chorus) (TAG) Awe shucks! Copyright © 2011 by Douglas Murphy
