From 1997, Performed entirely on bass guitar.

Experimental music: irregular fragmented loops, ambient, filtered noise often informed by natural sound phenomena
Matt Davignon has developed a unique form of improvisation over the last 10 years, focusing on textures, arrhythmic patterns and musical imperfections. Combining acoustic and electronic elements, he attempts to create dynamic, biological music from seemingly limited source material. Since early 2004, he's been working primarily with drum machine, using several effects and sampling devices to enable it to create drones, gurgles and crackling textures. He also plays turntable, prepared guitar, household objects and a plethora of toy instruments. Matt also organizes several musical events in the San Francisco Bay Area, including the Found Objects Festival, where artists must create music from audience-submitted objects.

Story behind the song
The ideas for 5 Spots came about in 1996 when I still played bass guitar often. Rafter Roberts let me borrow his reverb unit, and I had the idea of doing a cd of music using only altered sounds of the bass guitar. In the end, only about half the songs followed that theme (including this one), and the final cd included several multi-instrument tracks that complemented the bass-only stuff. Several tracks on the cd were named after chapters in a second grade science book I obtained.
