A short glimpse into a gambler's mind. Any craps player will readily relate.
Funky midwest rock 'n roll with blues and R&B and flavors to complete the grooves.
Atomic Hoss
Story behind the song
A hot roll of the dice at the Rock Island Casino.
The song started as an exercise in writing couplets for one of Vince Gotera's poetry classes. It's a work in progress, versions keep changing.
Lyrics
Feelin’ the bug
Ceasar’s palace is down on the strip
But the horseshoe makes the trip
Inside they’re all the same;
Just show me to the craps game
In the misty clangs of crashing chips,
id signals me to make the slip.
The dice are hot; I just can’t leave.
The shooter’s point rolled out with ease.
A stickman’s voice, tantalizing,
Says, “point is ten.” Tension’s rising.
Point bettors pray for puppy paws.
When Yo’s the call, I clutch my green claws,
My usual bet, the c and e,
(Snubbed by some) pays me handsomely.
The bones are rolled, snake eyes, oh no
Yep, you guessed it, I bet the high low.
Feelin’ the bug again.
These damn dice are takin’ me in
Some say it’s a sin.
I don’t care I’m ready to win
(2x’s)
Lay out a quarter. Buy the four.
Little Joe will show me the door.
They ask if I’m psychic, I shrug, surprised.
“Just feelin’ the bug.” Is my reply
An hour passes, bets are parlayed.
my conscience urges me to ‘take money made’.
Desire for more, I can’t hold back.
That’s how it goes when playin’ craps.
Feelin’ the bug again.
These damn dice are takin’ me in.
Some say it’s a sin.
I don’t care I’m ready to win. (2x’s)
