Story behind the song
This is a collaboration/cowrite.
Was asked by my friend Dottie Corley to help with a song she had written. We tossed the lyrics up into the air and came up with this song.
Lyrics
Midnight and I'm creeping hat and boots in hand
I'm duckin' out your back door, cause I'm a wanted man
Bounty hunters track my trail, all across the USA
But settlin' down, to hard time, is more that I can pay
A phantom wolf, I leave no tracks, without a hint of shame
camouflaged I sniff for traps set by my burned flames
ch
I'm a wanted man. Wanted for love crimes
Condemned by my ex's from New York to Texas
A cloak and dagger Romeo I'm always in demand
Catch me if you can, I'm a wanted man
V2
The waitress in the diner, we tangoed once before
I fear my fame has reached her, but I never can be sure
Tilt my hat, flip my collar as I try to sneak away
But her hand grabs my coat tail and she's wailing out my name
Same old grind all the time for an outlaw on the run
Escaping like Houdini, stealing hearts without a gun
Chorus
Bridge
They're always on the lookout, no matter where I go
Think I'll dust the trail, and head down to old Mexico
Pretty senoritas there, they won't know who I am
I ain't got no smokin' gun but I AM .....a wanted man
