Another sensitive poet
Welcome to the world of wilkie. If you are not related to me by blood, marriage or adoption, what the heck are you doing here?
Story behind the song
So, I'm in the car with my Daniel, age 10, and I get the urge to kiss him, and, for the first time, he kinda gives me the old pre-teen brushoff, like "get off me, Dad". So I kinda sang to him "I'll kiss you as long as you let me Baby", just like that. Hey, that's a song, I thought.
The lyrics are unabashedly syrupy, but this remains one of my favourite tracks.
Thanks to Serge for playing guitar on this track, and to Robyn for the great backup vocal.
Lyrics
There’s a girl
Swinging through the air
Sunlight dancing through her hair
You see
This is the girl that is waiting there for me
She is soft
Like a cloudy tear
Someday I know she’ll disappear
From me
That is the day that she’ll set herself free
And just as I will need her
A trail of stars will lead her
Someday
So far away
We are Home
Lying in her bed
Fantasies running through her head
I smile
Holding her in my arms all the while
And I know
There will come a day
The road that she’s running will turn away
From me
As she sets her sights so seriously
As I lean down to kiss her
I’m sure that I will miss her
But until then, I still can say
I’ll Kiss you as long as you let me, Baby
I’ll promise you everything I own
And when you say goodbye
I promise not to cry for you
Baby
I’ll kiss you as long as you let me Baby
Looking Back
Only yesterday
She’d run up to me and say
Let’s go
Daddy I want you to come see my show
On and on
Like a storyline
I turn each page to find
A mystery
As she blows my mind continuously
And while there’s still some time
I still can call her mine
And so I’ll be there everyday
