This was a free write that I did in Mr. Martin's english class junior year. Don't misunderstand. It wasn't an assignment. I just didn't pay attention a lot of the time, and so I often got some good writing done. I believe this song was recorded in only 2 takes, and I hope this take was the one Jon liked. Prior to that night of recording, I played the song differently each time I played it. Since there wasn't a consistent rhyme scheme or meter, the song leant itself to a freer form. When I got into the studio, this was the way that felt right. I guess, when I play it now, I'm just copying the album version.
