My wife and I had been trying to adopt for a few years. In our education about the world of adoption, I came to meet many of the people who deal with children who unfortunately have been taken away from their parents. Child abuse was a part of their everyday lives. This song is told from the point of view of an adopted child who worries whether he too will abuse his children one day.
Lyrics
Boys don't cry
my daddy says
Take it like a man
say your prayers
But daddy what can I do
when the beatings come from you
and God don't seem to hear my prayer
Someday Will I be you
Drink till dawn, run from the truth
Someday will I be you
Someday Daddy will I hurt my children too
Far from home
easier to breathe
Different town
different life
But I can't help but see
Daddy's eyes in me
I've seen things
no one needs to see
Someday Will I be you
Drink till dawn, run from the truth
Someday will I be you
Someday Daddy will I hurt my children too
Someday Will I be you
Drink till dawn, run from the truth
Someday will I be you
Someday Daddy will I hurt my children too
