Lyrics
Slim Joe Penny
"Slim" Joe Penny was an Arkansas bull hauler
Ran up and down these roads for fifty years
Never known a man that stood much taller
And nobody’s ever hauled as many steers
He would say,
Why don’t you ride with me on this next load
He taught me things a young man better learn
Like, any curve can turn into the end of the road
If you’re going to dang fast to make the turn
Gotta load of cattle, gotta go, gotta go
Gotta be in Oklahoma 'fore too long
This old rusty Peterbilt is gonna have to roll
Then he’d play another Willie Nelson song
He taught me about people.. horses and cattle
You’ve got to learn to think the way they do
Pick horses by their hearts and not the dazzle
And that's pretty good advice for people too
He would say,
Learn to love a woman or you’ll wind up alone
Sometimes she won’t make any sense at all
Old Slim was always lookin’ for a pay phone
He’d say Mrs. Penny is expecting me to call
Gotta load of cattle, gotta go, gotta go
Gotta be in Oklahoma 'fore too long
This old rusty Peterbilt is gonna have to roll
Then he’d play another Willie Nelson song
This morning I helped carry Old Slim's casket
And I've been thinking back about it all
Think I'll dig this cell phone from my pocket
Just in case my wife's expecting me to call
He would say,
Boy I hope you know all about Jesus
About the way He died to save your soul
Everything we do, you know He sees us
Now let's try to make this rusty tractor roll
Gotta load of cattle, gotta go, gotta go
Gotta be in Oklahoma 'fore too long
This old rusty Peterbilt is gonna have to roll
Then he’d play another Willie Nelson song
