Preacher Man © 2010 J.Ryce/D.Wagner
Preacher man he told us he's gonna save our souls
Had a trunk load full of Bibles in his car down by the road
You could taste the bad whisky, smell the cheap perfume
As the sun beat us down in the hot afternoon
Hm hm hm, the Devils home
Hm hm hm, the Devils home
Through the screen door of our front porch he slowly came right in
The air felt uneasy as he smiled a yellowed grin
Mama sensed foul play and said with a nervous smile
“Don’t keep your friends waiting son, I’ll come get you in a while”
Hm hm hm, the Devils home
Hm hm hm, the Devils home
Bridge:
I've seen the Preacher Man before but I knew something was wrong
I ran to the mill where daddy worked all day long
Told him bout the Preacher and how he walked right in
Daddy said "Boy stay here, till I come for you again
He was a wolf in sheeps clothing out preying on his flock
Devil got inside him but Daddy made him stop
If you find yourself by the muddy river don't be surprised
If the waters churned, you might find a bible passing by
Hm hm hm, the Devils home
Hm hm hm, the Devils gone home
Hm hm hm, the Devils home
Hm hm hm, the Devils gone home
