Story behind the song
I've been trying to follow a suggestion in Paul Baloche's God Songs book, which is to try and find song ideas from a sermon. This song is based on a sermon series for a church I've been visiting the past couple of weeks, the Vineyard Chester Springs, and it's about their newly adopted purpose statement. "Love God, Connect with Others, and Serve our World" Musically I wanted to use simple chord fingerings to get lots of open ringing strings for a more modern sound, yet still have some interesting sounding chord voicings. [ And thanks to the net, with all it's "name that chord" sites, I can actually give names to them! :-D ] I also wanted to have some interesting jumps in the melody. I got that, but it goes down to an 'A' which is a stretch for comfortable congregational singing. But being on the low side, it'll be a good song for early services!! :-D
Lyrics
@ 108bpm Chorus Jesus, {oh} Jesus. Come fill this place. [repeat] Verse 1 We come here in the morning, to express our love for You. Risen hands exult You, for everything You do. We lift our voices higher, and attempt to sing as one. We want You Lord to hear us, smile and say well done. [chorus] Verse 2 We assemble here together, to form community. To be there for each other, to reflect Your unity. We fellowship together, not just for the world to see, but to show love for our brother, just as You did decree. [chorus] Verse 3 We know who is our neighbor, You showed us perfectly. And know You did commission us, and paid it all on that tree. You gave so much to save us, {how} can we do any less? To serve our fellow man, is how we can express. [chorus] Ending (selah feel @ 82bpm) Holy Spirit, Holy Spirit fill us with Your grace [repeat] Jesus, oh Jesus. Come fill this place [repeat]
