It could be the author is unknown, by his or her
own choice. I believe the song is the author's own
prayer put to music. The author wants others to
have the desire for a closer walk with Jesus as the
author does. The "Religious Activity" and the idea of
"Look here what I'm doing for God" motivation, has
to be let go of. I think the "Living Bible" says it best.
Jesus Speaking
" And now about prayer. When you pray, don't be
like the hypocrites who pretend piety by praying
publicly on the street corners and in the synagogues
where everyone can see them. Truly, that is all the
reward they will ever get. But when you pray, go
away by yourself, all alone, and shut the door
behind you and pray to your Father secretly, and
your Father, who knows your secrets, will
reward you." Matthew 6:5-6
I believe the song is the author's secret prayer,
given to God, and for our benefit, without a single
thought to earthly reward. That "Closer Walk"
might very well be the reward.
