Story behind the song
I wanted to whip up something real fast with a setup of nothing but my Bass and my Guitar, creating a bare-bones sound. With the right amount of echo and wah-wah effects, it produces an Astral-Blues/Funk sound. As for the lyrics, they were improvised as I recorded. Using my little "split-vocal" recording technique, this track, "Cats", turns out very dark and moody. The song is mainly saying that people will say a lot of trash about you and try to bring you down, but you gotta keep standing. Just simply get back up and brush yourself off. Like the old cliche goes: if a cat falls from a high place, he always lands on his feet.
