Story behind the song
The story IS the song...
Lyrics
I wish I could remember the song the jukebox played that moved Lenore off her stool and made her body sway. And the sailor man from Louisiana had to dance along. You can blame it on the whiskey friend, I'll blame it on the song. I'd spent more nights than needed at The Old Hotel Saloon. Where upstairs for a season, I'd rented out a room. And every night by nine o'clock I'd slip inside the door. Spare a nod for the admiral, a smile down to Lenore. She must have been a beauty, a heart break in her day. Often times I wondered, what stole her youth away. She would wander 'round this harbor town and stare out at the bay. But when I asked the locals, "life" is all they'd say. Then one night a stranger came and bought the house a round. Stepped up to the jukebox, and laid his dollar down. And he must have caught some magic in that sweet familiar sound. Lenore would glide across the floor, her feet a whisper off the ground. Now I wish I could remember, the song the jukebox played. That moved Lenore off her stool, and made her body sway. And the sailor man from Louisiana had to dance along. You can blame it on the whiskey friend, I'll blame it on the song. Yeah you can blame it on the whiskey, I know it was th song.
