Country death metal?
Another entry for Jon harrington's British writers' group. They wanted songs about chains--so they got a bouncy, upbeat little thing about suicide. Had to be Death Metal, right?
[4/4, standard death metal beat]
ANGEL IN CHAINS
--J. Wrabek
1.
I left you lying under the bus
After I was sure you weren’t waking up
I heard you say that you’d had enough
And nothing was going to change…
They’ll take your head and cut it open wide
And try to figure out why you died
And see if there’s anything left inside
That anyone would want to save…
CHORUS:
I’m leaving now, and it’s for the best
I love you still, but I need my rest
I’ve got a life, and I’m sorry it ain’t strange…
And I don’t suppose I’ll be seeing you again…
Angel in chains
Angel in chains
Angel in chains…
2.
Conjuring spirits every night
Never knowing which ones were nice
Four short walls with nothing at all
To keep the nightmares at bay…
I kept the photographs of me and you
And all the dreams that never came true
I guess I was a prisoner, too
But you managed to escape…
CHORUS:
I’m leaving now, and it’s for the best
I love you still, but I need my rest
I’ve got a life, and I’m sorry it ain’t strange…
And I don’t suppose I’ll be seeing you again…
Angel in chains
Angel in chains
Angel in chains…
[LEAD BREAK, IF ANYONE CAN PLAY LEAD]
3.
Recreational handcuffs are still on the bed
Along with the whips, and the drugs you left
I’d like to take away all of you
But some things have got to stay…
I didn’t know it’d be this hard
I was prepared for us being apart
But this feels like driving off in a car
When the roads are all melted away…
CHORUS:
I’m leaving now, and it’s for the best
I love you still, but I need my rest
I’ll get a life, and it prob’ly won’t be strange…
And I don’t suppose I’ll be seeing you again…
Angel in chains
Angel in chains
Angel in chains…
