The Alternative Ending © 2009 Graeme Hobbs/Dick Langford
The opening shot, will the critics be kind
The end and between is what stays in the mind
Did you touch someone's heart, did you move someone's soul?
The thing that's most precious is hardest to find
It's your birthday and Christmas all rolled into one
A continuous loop of your favourite song
It's the first time you kissed her, the last time you cried
It's the reason we live and be willing to die
It's the special edition, the directors cut
The alternative ending and all of that stuff
It's just nickel'n'dimes and shillings'n'pence
And try as you might it just doesn't make sense
The subtitles and dubbing were all out of sync
And the drama, if any, was pure kitchen sink
Not like a Hitchcock and one of his best
Not exactly like Cary in North by North West
It's the 5th of November, the 4th of July
It's happy new year and mom's apple pie
As the images fade and the violins swell
The good guys to heaven, the bad guys to hell
It's the special edition, the directors cut
The alternative ending and all of that stuff
It's just nickel'n'dimes and shillings'n'pence
And try as you might it just doesn't make sense
There'll be no remake made of your life
