Story behind the song
REJOICING IN THE RESURRECTION (CHRIST ALIVE!) Rejoicing in the resurrection of Jesus Christ my king, the Son of God victorious over the pow'r of death and sin, I live my life in faith and trust, for his Spirit dwells within, and helps me find security as I dwell beneath his wing. Christ alive! Conquering over the grave! Christ alive! Risen and strong to save! Christ alive! No-one can keep me apart from the one who died and rose again and whose Spirit is in my heart. The earth was dark that Friday evening they laid him in the tomb. Their hopes, like him, were dead and buried, their mood was doom and gloom. They had no thought of resurrection when he was crucified, for who has ever come to life again after he has died? Christ alive! ... This doctrine of the resurrection is sweet and sure and strong. It makes me certain God is with me through Jesus Christ his Son. It proves that Christ has victory over sin and guilt and shame. It shows that we and all creation will bow before his name. Christ alive! ... Words copyright (c) John Hartley 2010. All rights reserved. Story behind the song. I wrote this song on Easter Sunday, after we had sung Moira Austin's hymn "Rejoice, the Lord is risen" in church. I wanted to write a similar hymn which would exult in what God has done for us and how the resurrection makes us sure of his love.
