This is a song I wrote for my sister Shannon on her 40th birthday.
I usually write a song parody for relatives on their birthdays. I deviated from the norm with this one. It's been sorta in my head for a while but lyrically it kept sounding too much like 'The Wrong Child' by REM. I finally finished it and April and I sang it at Shannon's 40th Birthday Party last month.
I have seen expressions on their faces
of sorrow I can almost understand
try to hide looks akin to hatred
through a smile (but ) you see it in their eyes
They see her and thinks she's different
the difference is they have a lot to learn
She sees them and thinks no different
what a difference if we come to be like her
Simple things to her seem most impressive
while to us they're insignificant
she smiles at them you realize that so are you
she brings more joy than they'll ever know...still
They see her and think she's different
the difference is they have a lot to learn
She sees them and sees no difference
what a difference if we come to be like her
We can't dwell on their ignorance
we have even thought that way ourselves
but if we follow her example
then it might be easier to claim...that
We see her and think no different
the difference is we still have yet to learn...cuz
she sees us and thinks no different
what a difference if we come to be like her.
