Story behind the song
Trollkjerringslatt fra Hornelen
One of the older folk music documents of Nordfjord in Norway, first noted by Hans Michael Seehus
(1724-1784). Hornelen is one of two mountains by Nordfjord said to be inhabited by wiches. After the meal, the devils own orchestra, accompanied the witches dance.
The Leitrim Fancy
A traditional irish double jig
The Hag at The Churn
Folk superstition said that witches would inhabit a churn to steal butter. They could not abide this particular tune, however, so it would be played as a ward when the chore of churning butter was done.
