Story behind the song
Someone had annoyed me at work, so I wrote a song about them. And various other randomly selected but none-the-less deserving targets. THE SESSION Live, apart from a DR-550 drum track with a touch of delay for the breaks, and features my first and last ever guitar solo - I particularly like the way the last bit almost screws up but not quite. Thanks to the wonders of modern technology (innit great!) for the bass line. THE CAST All instruments, vocals and programming: Duncan Clee DATES Original recording: May 1993 Digitally trickeried: Summer 1999 in Baltimore, Co Cork Re-engineered to DAT: October 2000 by Serpico

ONANONANON (c) 1992 D Clee | A / / / | A / G D | 4x Bass: | A / G / | 4x | G / / D | A / / / | G / / / | A / / / | 2x Is anything you say for real? What does it take to make you feel the way I feel? We've all got our opinions, I'll agree, It's that sometimes I'm not sure that it's the same world we both see, We both see. | A / / / | A / G D | 2x | G / / D | A / / / | G / / / | A / / / | 2x I read the papers now and then, The smear and slander from some conniving pen. I grit my teeth and smile at you, If you can kid yourselves along, well then I can do it too. But was it... | Em / / / | G / / / | A / / / | A / / / | Something you said? Well I just couldn't say, I hope that your wrong or I'm leaving here today. | Em / / / | G / / / | D / / / | A / / / | I've seen it all before, this sorry old show - How long does this go onanonanonanonanonanonanon... | A / / / | A / G D | 4x Onanonanon? | G / / D | A / / / | G / / / | A / / / | 2x Who arms the armies, loads the breech? Is it any wonder we don't get a minute's peace? So much blood, so little gain, I don't get hung up on losing, I can take a little pain, A little pain. | A / / / | A / G D | 2x | G / / D | A / / / | G / / / | A / / / | 2x There ain't no smoke without a fire But you couldn't read the writing if the words were ten feet higher. Your justice cuts me like a knife, It seems what's right or wrong depends on how you live your life. Was it... -- solo -- | G / / D | A / / / | G / / / | A / / / | 2x So stick around now if you will, I love this city but the air it makes me ill. Too many cars, too many fumes, Too many people taking up too many rooms. And I've... | Em / / / | G / / / | A / / / | A / / / | Slaved and I've grafted, worked my fingers to the bone, Still all you want is more, I've nothing left to call my own. | Em / / / | G / / / | D / / / | A / / / | I've seen it all before and I can't take it anymore - How long does this go onandonandonandonandonandonandon? Was it... | A... |
