Story behind the song
Jim and I collaborated for a while (in fact, you hear him singing on some of my demos). This is a song that he wrote and that I loved. I asked him if I could do a MIDI sequence of this song, and he said yes. What you hear is the result. Jim O'Brien, vocals and guitar Ray Kim, keyboards and alto sax
Lyrics
ONLY YOU Words and music by Jim O’Brien Verse 1: Every now and then, I write you a letter, And tell you how I wish that we could be together... But we never see each other anymore, And whenever I call, it seems you’ve just stepped out the door... Chorus: I wish you never had to go... I don’t want anybody else to hold me, Only you... I don’t want to live without you now... I never knew that it would hurt so bad... Verse 2: Every weekend, I think “maybe I can see you...” I would drive all day and night if I could just be with you... And this is the time you know, it won’t get any better... Why can’t we just run away, run away forever... Chorus: I wish you never had to go... I don’t want anybody else to hold me, Only you... I don’t want to live without you now... I never knew that it would hurt so bad... Bridge: We’ve been together for so long... Don’t throw it all away... Oh, I love you now more than words could ever say... Ever say... (Instrumental ad lib) It’s okay, I guess, we will both survive... After all of the happiness, I just can’t say goodbye... Chorus: I wish you never had to go... I don’t want anybody else to hold me, Only you... I don’t want to live without you now... I never knew that it would hurt so bad... Copyright (c) 1990, Jim O’Brien
