The original! Galloping bass, Euro-styled vocals and clever lyrics that play on two different levels. Hit #14 on Billboard's Club Play Chart. "Do you rely on the archer's skill to catch you?"
Traffic, what a blessing! Willie was caught in gridlock down Miami's 836 Expressway on the way to Rick's house. With time to spare Willie hummed a few song ideas. The chorus flowed and Willie jotted it down (traffic was that bumper-to-bumper).
At Rick's house the rest of the song came together. Rick came up with the bass progression and the opening melody line. Willie added the punchy riff. Haydee came over and the song was complete.
The Archer in the song, is Cupid naturally. In a genre that had seen it all this one hit a unique chord. The offbeat lyrics and catchy groove gave the song a long shelf-life after its July 3, 1989, release.
It wasn't until December when the song threatened the pop charts, petering out at #102. On the Billboard Dance Club Play chart it was another story. Ten weeks. Peaking at #14. Paris By Air had arrived.
Lyrics
Walking through the walls of time
Passing Between the lines
I am the one
Arrows shooting overhead
You're looking down instead
I am the One
Painted pictures in the dark
Aiming to miss your mark
I am the One
I am the One
I am the Voices in Your Head
You are the one I want instead
Do you rely on the archer's skill to catch you?
Running with the hands of time
So fast it's such a crime
I am the One
Hoping but to miss the aim
Of Cupid's deadly game
I am the One
I am the Voices in Your Head
You are the one I want instead
Do you rely on the archer's skill to catch you?
