Story behind the song
This is a story about a young father of a four year old girl getting shot because he sold some bad shit. Too many little girls are loosing their daddies, you see it on the news almost every day. We gotta stop the violence!
Lyrics
Yo dawg, whats hapnin with you now? Did ja hear about M.C. Ray? His natty ass got wasted, They killed him yesterday He was drivin in his ride, you know the Chevy with the shine? Some homies pulled up beside him, They shot his ass nine times He never knew what hit him, He was dead before he left the road Damn near blew his head off, Ya know they used a 44 There won't be no open coffin at the funeral ya know They still gotta tell his little girl she won't see her daddy no more Yeah I heard that he was slingin, he didn't used to do that shit But he got his ass laid off and his little girl was sick, His insurance had been cancelled, his old lady ran off with a G So he was out there on the corner slingin crack and coke and weed He musta sold some bad shit, to some G's the other night They never gave him a chance to try and make it right You know Ray was a good ol boy, never gave no body no shit He'd give you his last dime if you really needed it Ya gotta do what ya gotta do to make it day by day But for everything you do there's a price you gotta pay Ray paid the ultimate price for his mistakes Just shows that there's no good that ever comes from hate A little girl lost her daddy, a father lost his son A mother lost her only child, Ray had just turned twenty one There's a lesson to be learned here if you can just see the truth Don't do nothin to nobody that ya wouldn't want 'em doin to you I found his old lady this mornin and told her bout ol Ray I asked her what she's gonna do about her little girl She guessed she'd get her auntie to take her for a while Cause she was just too busy I just shook my head and smiled I said, Is the crack more important then your own flesh and blood? She dropped her head and walked away, like I figured that she would That little girl turns four today, she doesn't know about her dad She doesn't know that she's lost the only parent she really had I talked to Ray's mama she said she'd she'd like to take the child But her health just isn't good and Ray's dad's cancer's runnin wild He's only got a few more months that's what the doctors said Now before the cancer kills him he might grieve himself to death So there's a four year old little girl with no one left to care She didn't do nothing wrong and it just don't seem fair That she's got to pay a lifetime for one stupid mistake She worshipped her daddy, but he won't ever be back
