Story behind the song
The flying Horse is two things, it's the name of a pub and it's the name of a ship. The singer of the song watched another singer (performing at The Flying Horse) singing a song about a ship called "The Flying Horse." Coincidence? I think not, the pub was named after the ship. The Captain is a hero.
Lyrics
The Flying Horse I saw you at "The Flying Horse" you performed a song you wrote About a ship that got off course and could barely stay afloat The S. O.S. fell on deaf ears No one heard it's Mayday call The crew could only hide their fears The Captain stood just like a wall "Oh captain" you sang "I think we're in trouble, Get up to the bridge Get up on the double." "Oh captain" you sang "Our ship is not stable, please steady the course, Sir I know that you're able." Thunder clapped and sky was aglow The ship was in peril that night The men prayed but stayed below Would she would be worthy at light? The crew of twelve came up on deck And they saw their Captain there They cheered for him as the bow was erect The Horse was saved, the horizon was clear
