The first song is a true story about Claud T Miller my Dad.
Dan hated the daily grind of work but loved fishing and hunting. This caused him to lose a couple of jobs before I came along. The point is, he hated to work but did what a good father does and did it anyway.
At the end of the song the mindless drum machine continues to play and I just jammed along, the fader on the recorder didn’t work so you hear the song just kinda slowly fall apart at the end.
Did I mention I am not a very serious musician?
I’M JUST LIKE DAD
Born on a railroad spur in a dirty work camp
4 brothers and 3 sisters survived the cold and the damp
childhood filled with labor was all that he had
that’s the reason I hate working for the man just like dad
Dad hit a young officer when he told him to shine his boots
Respect for the brass was something he didn’t give a hoot
Spending time in the brig he wasn’t ashamed
He has stayed true to the miller name
CHORUS
he didn’t like to work, born and labored on the rails
dad went to work each day in spite of the call of wooded trails
he wanted to be fishin ‘cause the foremen made him mad
I hate lists and have to do’s
You know I’m just like dad
Drawing plows and working timber in KY’s woods
Dad’s labor finally paid off he finally made good
He married that young Elliott girl from the west side of town
I call him dad I call her mom they are the best around
CHORUS
After years of riding rail from red river to Chinowee
Retirement was his reward he finally was free
We all left home five moved away
I remember nothing bad
Our home will be where mom is just like dad.
