Recorded on the BOSS multitrack digital recorder with two track of Takamine, two voice tracks, Carvin bass and KORG stage piano.
The fifth song is about Purple bracelets that our preacher handed out at church one night. The idea is, if you think about complaining you have to shift it from one arm to the other. After 21 days, new habits are supposed to develop….eventually reaching the goals laid out at www.acomplaintfreeworld.org
Note the calypso drum machine pattern and also the church organ that comes in at the appropriate time. By the way, the Waffle Hut is really a Huddle House but I couldn’t figure a rhyme that worked!
We should all try one of these type reminders, I seriously did not realize how much I complained even though I have been thoroughly blessed.
PURPLE BAND
I’ve been a Christian since I was three-pretty cocky I must say
I felt that I was a role model I thought I knew the way
‘till one day my preacher gave to me a circular violet token
it’ll change your life I heard him say truer words were never spoken.
On Thursday nights my friends and I Would meet at the Waffle Hut,
drink coffee and complain about How our life was in a rut
Now they know something’s different In silence all the while
They asked and I explained about The reason for my smile
CHORUS
Just a simple piece of plastic to be worn the around the wrist
How did I know my life would take such an ironic twist
Who would have thought the revelation made plain there on my hand,
A symbol of commitment, a plain bright purple band.
A symbol of commitment, a plain bright purple band.
My wife and I at evening meals Would bemoan the day’s ordeal
Everyone we worked with Our sanity would steal
Now I sit across the table I see her bracelet and I smile
We talk about the kids and how We’ve been blessed all the while
CHORUS
Last night I dreamed of heaven St Peter at the Gate
I said St Peter let me in He said “you’ll have to wait”
There seemed to be a problem He Said “Ill make it Clear
No purple band is needed now No aggravation here!”
CHORUS
