Story behind the song
A little different arrangement to one of my favorite carols...the author and composer of The First Noel are unknown. The First Noel is of Cornish origin. Its current form was first published in Carols Ancient and Modern (1823) and Gilbert and Sandys Carols (1833), both of which were edited by William Sandys and arranged, edited and with extra lyrics written by Davies Gilbert for Hymns and Carols of God. Today, it is usually performed in a four-part hymn arrangement by the English composer John Stainer. I added my own second verse and varied the melody abit.
Lyrics
The first Noel...the angels did say Was to certain poor shepherds...certain poor shepherds In fields where they lay In fields where they lay keeping their sheep On a cold winter night...it was a cold winter night And it was so deep Noel...Noel...Noel...Noel Born is the King...Born is the King The King of Israel It was the first Noel...it was the fullness of time God sent forth His Son...His only Son Come to live...come to die For a world that was lost...in the darkest of night But a star shone to them and it's shining again With it's glorious Light! Noel..Noel...Noel...Noel Born is the King...Born is the King The King of Israel Noel..Noel...Noel...Noel Born is the King...Born is the King Born is the King...Born is the King Born is our King...Born is the King It's Jesus...God is with us He is born...the King of Israel!
