This is my first foray into Country Rock style music and it is about a young couple on a farm, struggling with the pressures of living with the drought.

Believe it or not, the first line I came up with (and I'm not real sure how this is supposed to be spelt) was "yippee kai yay" and the rest of the song basically was constructed around it.
Long Time Gone
© David Crawford 2007
(Verse 1)
Worryin about the weather aint gonna make it right
Wakin up sweatin in the middle of the night
With the weight on his shoulders
and knowin that it’s all on the line
(Verse 2)
Windmill’s still turning but it’s pumping out dust
Another letter from the bank and it’s saying how he must
Keep payin back the money
Even though there’s not enough to go round
(Chorus)
Still, One things for certain
Gonna work hard today
Wake up the neighbors
Singin yippee kai yay
Make the most of now cause
You’re a long time gone
(Verse 3)
She’s standin’ right beside him, believin’ in the lie
Keepin’ one eye on the future and the other on the sky
Hangin’ onto dreams about the place
They always had in their minds
(Verse 4)
No good complainin’ gotta do the best he can ‘cause there’s
three mouths dependin’ on him stickin’ to the plan
makin’ somethin’ out of nothin’
and he’s runnin’ out of things he can try
(Chorus)
Still, One things for certain
Gonna work hard today
Wake up the neighbors
Singin yippee kai yay
Make the most of now cause
You’re a long time gone
(Verse 5)
The politicians say they want to give him a hand
Say they’ll pay him lots of money just to walk off the land
What kind of idiotic
short-sighted thinkin’ is that?
They can walk away and quit or they can stand here and fight
But walkin out on their dreams in the middle of the night
just ain’t gonna happen
ain’t gonna happen at all
(Chorus)
Still, One things for certain
Gonna work hard today
Wake up the neighbors
Singin yippee kai yay
Make the most of now cause
You’re a long time gone
Make the most of now cause
You're a long time gone
