The third section of our epic concept song/album Reciprocity. First section to introduce the main players - the Diva, the DJ, and the Corporate King.
The story behind Reciprocity is too long and convoluted to detail here... needless to say, it is based on the concept it's titled after and deals mostly with the interdependence and give-and-take relationship between the general public and celebrities--all wrapped up into a "story" of sorts with some interesting characters and crazy plot twists. To truly understand it, you'd have to read the lyrics for all NINE sections (EIGHT of which are complete at this time).
Reciprocity: III. The High Life
(LaPolt/Succession)
Rising star, a diva in disguise
An undiscovered talent with piercing blue eyes
The voice of an angel yearning to be heard
The judgment of the Corporate King:
Only if she spreads my Word.
Remade the perfect goddess, with saline, tears, and collagen
Perhaps a bit too plastic, but sex sells just the same
She reached the glowing spotlight, with nothing lost but an empty soul
She’s the perfect diva. The Corporate King laughs and waits.
The makings of celebrity, a journalist full of pride
An academic legend, his speeches fueled a rising tide
A need for recognition, integrity thrust aside
The judgment of the Corporate King: Only if he spreads my Lies.
Remade the perfect spokesman, parading filth, excess, and shame
Perhaps he’s controversial, but perversion sells just the same
Reached mass recognition, with nothing lost but integrity
He’s the perfect DJ. The Corporate King laughs and waits.
...
Recall the plastic diva?
Sold her dreams for one shot at fame
A million faithful listeners
Dropped her for a fresher face
Number one to nothing
From overnight success to shame
Chorus:
Risky is the high life
Golden gilt smeared with blood
Battle for attention
Losers don't survive the flood
Brutal is the high life
The circling sharks don't swim away
Attracted by the bleeder
They hunger for the final blaze
Now the shocking DJ...
Built his name on perverted lies
A tabloid sensation
Scrutinized by public eyes
"Friends" close in around him
Greedy leeches in disguise
No one can be trusted
When everyone's a filthy spy
Repeat Chorus
