A gentle acoustic song that accelerates throughout to a slightly rockier finale. It is really a song about finding your true self in unusual (although hardly unpleasant) circumstances.

This was a song that started as a kind of Eagles-like idea and uses a very American imagery as a result. It was first written in 1995 and had some awful lines if I say so myself. I rewrote it in 2006 using the same basic idea and found a bridge that much improved the song. I then changed the chording for the last two verses from the first and the thing started to gain some life. Finally added the backing courtesy of some Band in a Box styles and selective editing and lo, it breathed. Of course it has strayed from its roots as an Eagles-a-like song but hopefully not in a bad way.
Wouldn't have dreamt of putting this one up for wider listening but it got picked up on the homemadehitshow.com and reviewed kindly.
I saw you break with the horizon
Jet black against the fiery sky
Sunshine glinting on your tailpipes
Racing to the coming night
I guess you are like me
Oh, I guess you are like me
I saw you flashing by the turnpike
Excitement lighting up your face
Blonde hair flying in the slipstream
Engine drumming out the pace
I think you are like me
Oh, I think you are like me
And with you I long to travel
Along these roads so wild and free
Kick off my blues, kick up some gravel
And try to find that man in me
Yeah, try to find that man in me
I saw you pull into the truck stop
Eating snacks in the red twilight
We talked and joked and laughed together
Right through till dead of night
I feel you are like me
Oh, I feel you are like me
I saw you later in the motel
Leather one piece tossed aside
We traveled far and wide together
And never left each others side
I know you are like me
Oh, I know you are like me
And with you I chose to travel
Along those roads so wild and free
Kicked off my shoes and raised the devil
Still trying to find that man in me
I'm trying to find the man in me
Trying to find the man in me
