Onward, onward we march....
'Triads in Arms' celebrates the diatonic harmonies that have underpinned so many different genres of music through the ages. In a musical exploration of symphonic writing that moves back through time (from the turgid, awkward harmonies of twentieth century, to the grand orchestral sweeps and delicate melodies of the romantic period), the piece eventually celebrates the baroque with an orchestral fugue. Charting our musical heritage, this somewhat subversive work champions the triad as the basic building block of music. This extract comes from the middle of the work.
