Story behind the song
Gathering of the Stars (Op. 4), was written November 1 1986 and is an ode to the universe. There are a few problems in the string section of Gathering that I must address. At two points the violins sound out of pitch and that is an arrangement flaw on my part and should not reflect on the high-caliber performers. Be aware of this. I want to express great thanks and gratitude to everyone involved and the people of the Icelandic National Broadcasting Service and Salurinn concert hall. Online score and parts
Lyrics
Oh, those eyes that are there, watching me everywhere I go. Silently in the night, touching me with their distant light. Sound asleep I can see them move, gathering in the emptiness. Far away, long ago ... ... the gathering of the stars. Oh, those lights that are here, leading me where I have to go. Quietly in the cold, showing me what is more than gold. Sound asleep I can see them move, gathering in the emptiness. Far away, long ago ... ... the gathering of the stars.
