Story behind the song
Colleen Howard, a photographer & artist, is one of my best friends from NYC, we go back 19 years... She died Oct 4th and I wrote this song for her memorial service. Even though her loss is sad and tragic, I wanted this piece to be positive and uplifting, which completely reflects Colleen's spirit and outlook on life... I introduced her to Buddhism and watched her transform her life. Hence the title “You’re My Proof” I wrote it on the bus within 15 minutes between the time I stepped on the bus and it pulled into my stop! Some songs are complete gifts and you just have to tune in and recieve them. I was lucky enough to bring pen and paper with me...
Lyrics
You’re My Proof (B. Kramer) Like a blossom breaking through the street How could something so beautiful Emerge from the concrete You’re my proof you’re my pride That living in this world is worth being alive Like a song that makes you move your hips And when you crack a smile through those tender lips You’re my proof you’re my pride That living in this world is worth being alive When you’re around no one ever feels down And worries of the mind shrink away When I hear your voice there is no choice You got to appreciate each and every day Like those cute freckles on your face And the comfort of your warm embrace You’re my proof you’re my pride That living in this world is worth being alive
